Opportunity Description

As the Purchasing Assistant Intern, you’ll gain an understanding of the operations of a Purchasing department and be mentored by the department manager. Focused on support and learning, you’ll learn and help with daily purchasing tasks and work on other projects within the operations of Simplex Homes. This intern reports to the Sr. Purchasing Manager. You’ll get a great glimpse of overall Simplex operations!

 

Logistics:

  • Summer 2026, May/June-August
  • Up to 30 hours per week, 10 weeks
  • $15/hour
  • On-site internship at business location in Scranton (Lackawanna County, PA)

 

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior level with coursework in business; classes in operations/supply chain management are a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction as necessary
  • Outstanding critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Can lift a minimum of 25lbs., if required

 

Projects:

Gain an understanding of how the Purchasing department works, with great mentoring!

  • Matching purchase orders to confirmations, receiving slips to invoices
  • Updating of cycle count inventory sheets
  • Updating master purchase order file
  • Assist with implementation of new item master program
  • Assist with physical inventory

  • Students are required to check with their college/university career development office to find out if any guidelines or requirements must be met for the internship by the student and/or the small business host, prior to start of internship.
